L’histoire suit Shimazu Toyohisa, un jeune samouraï, lors de la bataille de Sekigahara. Ce dernier arrive à blesser gravement Ii Naomasa, le général ennemi mais se retrouve également dans un piteux état. Ce dernier marche alors sur le champ de bataille et se retrouve transporté dans un couloir rempli de portes où un homme l’attend au fond, cet homme nommé Murasaki l’envoie dans la porte la plus proche.
En se réveillant, il s’aperçoit que le monde où il est, est différent de celui qu’il connaît. Dans ce monde, il rencontre d’autres guerriers surpuissants qui ont eux aussi été transportés dans ce monde. Ils font partie d’un groupe nommé « Drifters » ou « Vagabonds » en français.
