Rei Kiriyama, 17 ans, est un adolescent plutôt marginal dont la vie entière semble tourner autour du shogi (échecs japonais). Extrêmement doué, il est devenu joueur professionnel alors qu’il n’était que collégien et, depuis, il enchaîne les matchs et les tournois.
