Dans ce monde, les esprits et les humains co-habitent ensemble sans que cela pose de soucis. Ils s’entendent parfaitement bien et arrivent à vivre dans ce même monde. Les esprits peuvent avoir plusieurs formes différentes (animale, humaine, etc. ) Toutefois, ces esprits peuvent passer des pactes avec des humains appelés « Dantist ». On leur a attribué ce surnom car ils peuvent jouer ce qu’on appelle la « musique divine ». Cette musique sert en quelques sortes à contrôler les esprits ayant fait un pacte avec eux et à les faire vivre.
L’histoire est ciblée plus particulièrement sur la vie de Phoron Tatara, qui lui, a une très belle voix et a fait un pacte avec la belle Corticarte Apa Lagranges (surnommée « Corti » dans l’anime). C’est un esprit extrêmement puissant et redoutable. Ensemble, ils travaillent dans une agence de Dantist qui est là pour régler les différentes rixes entre les esprits et les humains.
