Shirayuki est une herboriste reconnue et très appréciée qui possède, en plus de ce talent, une autre caractéristique inhabituelle : des cheveux aussi rouges qu’une pomme bien mûre. Cette couleur de cheveux étant très rare, elle attire un jour l’attention du prince Raji, premier prince du royaume de Tanbarun, qui veut faire d’elle sa concubine. Mais la jeune fille refuse et s’enfuit vers le royaume voisin. C’est à cette occasion qu’elle croisera Zen, qui se révèlera bien vite être le second prince du royaume de Clarines. Intéressé par la jeune fille, il lui proposera de venir vivre dans son royaume où elle aura la possibilité de devenir l’une des pharmacologiste du palais. Elle acceptera.
