L’histoire se base sur un personnage historique du nom de Yasuke. Il était un ancien esclave africain qui a vécu au XVIe siècle et qui est devenu samouraï au Japon. Originaire du territoire des Bakongos, Yasuke a servi sous le règne d’Oda Nobunaga.
Dans un Japon féodal déchiré par la guerre, un ronin à la retraite doit de nouveau dégainer son épée afin de protéger un enfant que les forces des ténèbres veulent éliminer.
