L’histoire de Walkure Romanze est centrée autour de Takahiro Mizuno, un étudiant qui souhaitait devenir chevalier. Il était le champion junior inégalée dans son propre pays en joute. Cependant, une blessure en finale d’un tournoi l’a forcée à se retirer. Suite à cela, il décide d’être un begleiter (compagnon de chevalier).
Il est maintenant dans une école où l’activité sportive la plus pratiquée est la joute. La compétition annuelle se rapproche et, par un concours de circonstances, Mio, l’amie d’enfance de Takahiro devient participante. Mais le problème, c’est qu’elle n’a jamais monté à cheval et est effrayée à l’idée de devoir participer au tournoi. Takahiro décide alors de l’aider et va devenir son entraîneur.
